A square badge format at 105 × 105 mm — the same width as A6, without the height.

Square badges are less common, which is exactly why some organisations use them: at 105 × 105 mm a badge is immediately distinguishable from the usual portrait pass, which is useful when you need to tell crew from delegates or staff from visitors at a glance. Being square, orientation is not a decision you have to make.

At 1:1 there is no portrait or landscape to choose between, and artwork can be laid out either way up without the lanyard slot ending up on a side edge. Keep the top strip clear of anything that has to stay readable.

How to work out which size you need

How it compares to the other sizes

Square is a signalling choice rather than a sizing one. At 105 × 105 mm it is exactly as wide as the A6 pass with 45 mm less height, so it is a substantial badge — but the reason to order it is that it is visibly not the shape everyone else is wearing. That is how crew get told apart from delegates across a room, before anyone has read a word.

The mistake to avoid

Artwork built for a portrait pass. A 1:1 layout has to be designed square, not cropped square: a portrait badge forced into this format either loses the bottom of the design or leaves an odd band of empty PVC under it. Decide on the square early and lay the artwork out for it.

Branding this format

A square gives a centred logo more presence than any portrait format in this range, which is why tiered event badges are often printed here rather than relying on the insert alone. Where the pouch is printed, the options depend on the artwork and the quantity.

Custom and branded pouches

The lanyard to pair it with

20–25 mm. A square this wide needs a strap with some presence or the pouch looks like it is hanging off a thread. Our standard branded lanyard is 20 mm, printed full colour with a trigger clip; 25 mm is worth asking about on the quote if the badge is doing crowd-control work.
